Maggie M. Hantak
I am a new assistant professor in the Department of Biology at the University of Dayton. My research program is centered on the ecological and evolutionary processes that maintain genetic and phenotypic variation within and among populations. My work is largely focused on the evolution and maintenance of the striped/unstriped color pattern polymorphism in woodland salamanders (genus Plethodon). To study the polymorphism, I use ecological data, museum collections, machine learning, and community science platforms. I also work with large trait-based datasets from biodiversity databases to examine body size variation in mammals in relation to anthropogenic influences.
